Why Every Artist Needs a Sacred Creative Space

Art | Creativity | Life

In this first episode of my new studio vlog, I share the timelapse of building my first large easel and talk about the power of having a sacred, dedicated space for your art. Just like a doctor needs an office or a dancer needs a studio, artists need places to create. Even if it's just a corner in your room, your creative spirit deserves a home.

As creative souls, our environment deeply impacts the art we create. In this first episode of my new artist studio vlog series on DES/RA, I take you behind the scenes as I build my very first large art easel—a symbolic and physical foundation of my commitment to my artistry.

But this vlog is about more than just timelapse footage and woodworking. It’s a deeper reflection on the importance of carving out a dedicated, sacred space for your creative practice.

Just like a doctor needs an office to serve patients or a basketball player needs a court to train and play, we as artists need space to show up for our craft. Without it, we may feel constrained, invisible, or disconnected from our creative spirit.

Having a sacred space—whether it’s a full studio, a corner in your bedroom, or a small desk by a window—gives your creativity permission to expand. It becomes a container where your ideas can breathe, evolve, and come to life.

When we honor our need for creative space, we affirm our identity as artists. We say: My art matters. I matter.

So, I encourage you—wherever you are and with whatever you have—to create that space. Make it beautiful, make it yours, and let your soul feel safe to create freely.

Let this be your invitation to make room for your brilliance. Because the world needs your art.

🌿 Tips for Creating Your Own Sacred Creative Space (No Matter How Small)

You don’t need a huge studio or a Pinterest-worthy setup to create a space that nourishes your artistic spirit. Here are some simple, practical tips to help you build your own creative sanctuary—right where you are:

1. Claim a Corner
Start with what you have. A small corner of your bedroom, a section of your kitchen table, or even a closet-turned-nook can become your mini studio.

2. Set the Energy
Light a candle, burn incense, play soothing music, or keep a crystal nearby—anything that helps you feel grounded, inspired, and open to flow.

3. Keep It Functional
Store your supplies in portable containers, rolling carts, or baskets that you can tuck away if space is tight. Functionality can be beautiful, too.

4. Make It Yours
Decorate with things that inspire you—a vision board, a favorite quote, photos, art prints, or fabrics. Let your space reflect your soul.

5. Set Boundaries Around Your Time
Even if your space is temporary, treat it like sacred ground. Set time boundaries where your focus is solely on your creativity—no interruptions, no multitasking.

6. Stay Consistent
Return to your space regularly. The more you use it, the more it becomes charged with your energy and intention—and the more powerful it becomes.

7. Be Gentle With Yourself
Your space doesn’t have to be perfect—it just needs to be. Give yourself permission to start small and evolve as your art (and life) does.
